Business need

Creating a useful tool with a large number of titles and access to publishing premieres.

Empik is the biggest and best-recognized distribution chain of culture property, knowledge and entertainment in the Polish market, existing for almost 70 years. In over 260 salesrooms, it offers hundreds of thousands of books, music CDs, films, games, magazines and tickets for events. The company started the e-commerce service as one of the first in Poland and currently it is the third biggest Internet store and e-commerce leader in the country. The Empik Group serves 90 million customers a year and 4 million users belong to the Moj Empik loyalty programme.

of share in the sales of audiobooks after the first month since the application premiere.

The research has shown that 51% of readers read e-books on smartphones and in case of audiobooks this percentage is much higher! – 90%. For us, it was clear that if Empik wants to follow the mobility in reading, we have to invest in and implement a mobile application. Therefore, we made a decision about implementing EmpikGO – said Beniamin Schön from the Empik Group in an interview with Antyweb.

Nomination for Mobile Trends Awards 2018 in the e-commerce category.

Analysis and benchmarking

Analyzing the information architecture of the previous e-commerce (virtualo.pl) and competitive solutions.

Information architecture

Agreeing upon the information structure of the designed interface.

Lo-Fi wireframes

Designing processes and the elements layout at particular screens – creating low-detail models.

Graphic design

Preparing graphic designs for the full scope of screens – synchronizing works upon the interface with the process of a new brand originating in such a way that the final application design would keep the character and be coherent with the Empik brand Look&Feel.

Participation in implementation

Supporting developers in on-going programming works and responding to the occurring demand – designing additional screens, elements and illustrations.

Involvement of both sides

Strict cooperation of teams involved in creating an application resulted in much better understanding of project challenges and more efficient communication – as a consequence, it was possible to save a lot of precious time and create an application which successfully competed with market leaders.
